Hi! Welcome to the blog! Brief recap- we’re Say Yes Music Mgmt, and we’re in the business of making this whole creative-lifestyle-thing a little easier to manage. Whether you’re just dipping your toes in your creative journey for the first time, or whether you have been trudging through those sometimes-crystal-clear-sometimes-swampy waters for some time now.. We hope these words and this space provide a comforting nudge you may need to keep going. Trudge on, my friend.
you are who you surround yourself with
As creatives, you’re exposed to so many different people, that are all doing their damnedest at trudging their way through life at varying stages of their creative journey and personal development. Some being at places where they’re healing, and breed positivity, and others, less so, stuck in negativity.
Regardless of the stage you’re at (while still taking it into consideration), it’s important to take note of who it is that you’re spending your time with and the effects your social circle has on your creative and personal development.
easy choices, hard life; hard choices, easy life
At the end of the day,
the only one who knows what’s truly right for you, what’s BEST for you- is you.
..and even more importantly..
..what we often need the most, what we KNOW we need most.. is usually the harder thing.
be a student
The reality is, learning in general takes something that we all seem to not have enough of these days.. and that, my friends, is time.
There is no shortcut to the process of learning, be it through reading books and articles, listening to albums and interviews, or taking pen to paper and writing down all that we see, hear, and experience.
Choose that thing that makes you excited to wake up every morning, and BE all about it.
value yourself
It can become so difficult to recognize what true value is in all that we compare ourselves to in the sea of content we are consuming.
We can so easily lose ourselves into the all-too-well known doom-scroll, highlighting all that we WISH we could have or be; career heights we aspire to reach, beauty standards we hustle to keep up with, and enviable lifestyles we pressure ourselves to achieve in order to feel like we’re living our ‘best lives’.
But what are all of these things really worth?
define (& redefine) success
We all have a general understanding of what success means, and for most of us, we think of it and almost immediately jump to our most common understanding of what it means on the outside- that is, the tangible; what we can see, touch, and feel. What others can see, or touch, or feel.
But we must ask.. In regards to your personal, creative, and even professional life-
how satisfying of a definition is this definition of success?
Be the farmer
Have you ever heard of the Hunter and the Farmer?
Maybe you have and maybe you haven’t, but we think we all come to a point in our lives when the hunt feels like it takes more than it gives. But you see, there is no tool you can sharpen, specific grounds you can scavenge, or race you can run that will promise you success in your creative life.✨
What can promise you progress, however, is embracing the dutiful intention and care-filled routine that comes with the life of the Farmer.
you are your obstacle
The thing is, we are all what is standing in our own way, and our brains, in their infinite glory, try their best to help us by rearranging this fact through attributing the blame of all of our problems to all these external factors- timing, other people, specificities of circumstances.. You name it.
But the reality is, we are our problem, but we are also our solution.
expect mistakes
We don’t need to fear mistakes. We can not only accept mistakes, but rather, in the most positive of ways, expect mistakes, trusting that they’re of vital importance to our growth.
brave enough to begin
There’s no perfect time to start. As they say (someone says it, promise)- yesterday is gone, and tomorrow isn’t promised.
..so what are you waiting for?
